The Common Application

supercollege.com

The Common Application is the greatest gift you will ever receive from the colleges (besides an acceptance letter). In the old pre-Common Application days applicants had to complete an entire application for each school to which they applied.

Now, students can complete a single application and send it to as many of the couple hundred participating schools as they desire. While some schools also require you to complete a shorter supplementary form, many do not. This is a win-win situation since colleges enjoy an increased number of applicants while students like you have to fill out less forms.

You can get a Common Application from your counselor or by writing to the NASSP at 1904 Association Drive, Reston, VA 20191. A downloadable version will be available in August.

Unfortunately, while the Common Application is accepted by many schools, the majority still require you to use their own applications. Nevertheless, all applications - Common or not - ask the same questions and require the same information.
