Architecture Schools, Colleges & Universities

Summary:

The course work involved in earning a bachelor degree covers all facets of the profession so that upon graduation students are ready to immerse themselves in a job and begin preparing to earn their license.  The courses required include drafting, engineering and computer classes, three disciplines that are vital to the profession.  However students will also learn the fundamentals behind planning big projects and designing a building for client that meets with their budget.  All of this course work culminates in an educated architect who is fully ready to work in the profession.

Salary:
Architects right out of college can expect to earn around $40,000 per year, but can earn as much as $100,000 per year as they gain more experience.
Work Environment:
Architects enjoy the benefit of working in a comfortable office environment where the dress is usually casual.  On a daily basis architects are responsible for meeting with clients, developing drawings and working with other office staff in putting together plans for buildings.  Architects also get a chance to get out of the office also to visit project sites and oversee the development of buildings they’ve designed.  They generally work a 40 hour work week but may be required to work longer hours when trying to meet project deadlines.
